Venue: SMK R1 Wandsa Maju
Number of attendance: 78
Number of badges sold: sold postcards instead
Taking a class for school kids of the age group of 14 and 16 was an amazing experience for the second time with its unique challenges. The kids were energetic and very co-operative. They showed a lot of interest in the games and activities. The videos shown helped in drawing their attention to us and to create some silence. This time, I went all alone without being accompanied by any AIESEC volunteers and hence had to handle everything by myself. The support from the teacher’s side was very over whelming as always. The children gave interesting feedback although it was pretty much similar in some ways to last time.
The greatest challenge was controlling this bundle of energetic children all by myself. Considering Malaysia to be a majority of Muslim community, it became a little hard for me to talk about sex and so I couldn’t do the condom demonstration.
On the analysis of the feedback form (which only 59 students had filled), the results state that)
53 students were very happy and liked the session, 6 students felt it was average. 55 students felt that they learnt a lot about HIV/AIDS and 4 students felt that their learning was average. 46 students felt that the games were a lot of fun and 22 students felt they were average and only 1 students were not quite happy with it. Most students felt that the presenter (Prithvi, myself) knew a lot about HIV/AIDS, while only 7 people felt that I knew average information. Again, most of the students felt that I responded very well to their questions while 11 students felt that I answered fine and only 1 student was not satisfied. Most of the students wanted another session from AIESEC J
The favourite things for the students in the session were the videos, activities, games, knowledge (condom), the presenter (and presentation) and they also enjoyed the Q and A session a lot.
The complaints from the students side was the disturbance by other students and also for the fact that I had spoken about sex. Some of them had trouble understanding my accent.
Some of the suggestions received were to learn malay, extra facts and information, talking more fun stuff, playing more games, silence among other students and also to have more lively presentations.
